About the conference

The annual Conference on Applied Linguistics (CONAPLIN) has been held uninterruptedly since 2008. Currently in its 14th year, CONAPLIN can pride itself as one of the most prominent international academic events in the field of linguistics in the country. It has evolved from it modest beginning of a forum that aims to facilitate an exchange of knowledge, ideas and research results in the field of language education, language training and language testing (the core business of UPI Language Center) into a conference that engages in a diverse and most contemporary topic of applied linguistics.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Conference was moved and held online for the first time in 2020. This year, unfortunately and for the same reason, it will still need to be held online. However, in the spirit of the new normal, it will take up the challenges of doing research and teaching languages in a pandemic. This will hopefully generate different, new and refreshing ideas needed in these areas.

This year’s conference, which will be held on 13-14 July 2021, will explore the topic “Interdiciplinarity in Applied Linguistics: Empowering Collaboration through Teaching and Research”. This topic has been chosen to respond the challenges of shifting trends in education, from ones in which subjects were rather taught as isolated entities to those that involve interconnected disciplines simultaneously.

This year’s conference will also feature a number of new and refreshing elements, namely workshops in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in language teaching and research, Korean studies, Bahasa Indonesia for Speakers of Other Languages (BIPA), research student group, and pecha kucha.

As in the previous conferences, the proceedings and select papers of this conference will be published in a Scopus-indexed publication such as Atlantis Press and IJAL Journal.
